Walk/Run to End Domestic Violence (Benefit 5K)
Time: 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Location: Simard-Payne Memorial Park in Lewiston

Safe Voices hosts a Walk/Run to End Domestic Violence every year. This is the organization's largest fundraiser with all proceeds from the event benefiting the services Safe Voices provides its clients. For the first time this year Safe Voices will be hosting a 5k in addition to its annual walk. Registration will begin at 8, the 5k will begin at 9 and the walk will begin at 10. The Maine Game Wardens, stars of the hit show North Woods Law, will be at the event! There also will be fun activities for the whole family until noon. The event will take place on Sunday, June 1st at Simard-Payne Park in Lewiston. Come support those affected by domestic violence and speak out against abuse in your community.

The Somerset Country United Bikers of Maine Humane Society Ride will take place on Sunday June 1st, meeting at 9:30am at Holly and Dougs Country Diner, 347 Waterville Rd. Norridgewock. $10 Donation per person. Kickstands up at 10am. The ride will end at the Somerset Humane Society with a BBQ offered at 2pm for a donation of $5 per person along with a tour of the facility. Amy's Underdog Jog (Benefit 5K)

Amy was a caring and compassionate person who dedicated her life to helping others. She spent her life studying to become a nurse and volunteering at numerous charities. One of her favorite organizations was Almost Home Rescue where Amy spent her Saturdays transporting dogs in danger to safe locations. She was also a loving foster parent who had many "foster failures" which meant she often ended up falling in love and therefore adopting her foster puppies. Amy lived each day caring for others whether it was her animals or her patients. Her heart knew no bounds.

In a day-long celebration on Gardiner’s Historic Water Street and beautiful Waterfront Park, Gardiner Main Street, Gardiner Rotary, and Johnson Hall present live music and entertainment on three stages, a craft fair, and activities for all ages on and near the Kennebec River. The event is expected to bring thousands of visitors to the area. Items from Gardiner Main Street’s popular “Ride Into Summer” have been folded into this year’s River Festival including an opportunity for members of the public to crown the title of “Gardiner’s Best Pizza”. The event kicks off of the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce’s annual summer celebration of our riverfront communitites, affectionately known as the “Whatever” Family Festival. The Greater Gardiner River Festival, brought to you by US Cellular of Gardiner, takes place on Saturday, June 21st. Activities run from 9am until 11pm.

Gardiner- A celebration in honor of the 70th anniversary of the GI Bill will be held at the American Legion Smith-Wiley Post 4, 46 Griffin St., Gardiner Maine. Saturday June 21, 2014 from 2pm-5pm this celebration is open to all veterans, military members, and eligible dependents who use the GI Bill as well as school officials and employers who participate in the GI Bill programs. From 7pm to 11pm this celebration is for members and guests of the American Legion only. There will be food and live music and NO cover charge!

Pan Fried Steel, a community based steel band composed of 18 members based in Yarmouth, ME, will perform at the Vienna Union Hall on Saturday, June 21 at 7:00pm. They play a divere repertoire including calypso, jazz, reggae, soca, latin, swing and pop covering music from Charlie Parker and Jimmy Buffet to the Beach Boys.
