Fundraiser to recover Elks Club funds stolen for Travis Mills Event (Benefit/ Fundraiser)

On the evening of Memorial Day, someone broke into the Augusta Elks Club and stole over $15,000. Most of the money was raised over the past six months to hold a fundraiser at the end of July to raise money for the Travis Mills Foundation, an organization that aims to help disabled veterans with recreational activities to help with their rehabilitation. On Tuesday June 2nd from 4-6pm, the Red Barn will donate 50% of all sales to the Elks Club so they can still hold the fundraiser for the Travis Mills Foundation as planned!

Native American Flutist: Gareth Laffely (Concert)

Gareth Laffely, the 17 year-old winner of the 2014 Native American Music Rising Star Award will playing an All Ages concert on June 12th, at 7 p.m., at the Unity College Center for the Performing Arts.Gareth is completely self-taught on the Native American flute and blends rock, pop, and world music into a revolutionary style all his own. He fuses the traditional influences of the Native American flute with the edge of Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull.Gareth is of Mi'kmaq/Cree descent and from Gallatin, Tennessee near Nashville, although his family is from Maine. His flute is locally crafted by Fairfield artisan, Tony Francis. 5th Rally for Norlands: Civil War Reenactment (Family Activities)

Location: Washburn-Norlands Living History Center in Livermore, Maine

Don’t miss one of the largest Civil War Reenactments in Maine featuring a wide variety of living history demonstrations, exhibits, and engaging activities remembering the activities of the Civil War. Union and Confederate military and civilian reenactors from across New England will be camped on the grounds. The event features a full-scale battle scenario complete with artillery fire, the “town of Unity” civilian camp, farm-life living history in Norlands’ Washburn mansion, one-room schoolhouse, and farmer’s cottage, blacksmiths, contra-dance, horse-drawn wagon rides, Victorian tea and fashion show, and more. Plenty of hands-on history activities for all ages. President Abraham Lincoln makes a special visit on Saturday, June 13th at 11am.

Greater Gardiner River Festival (Fairs & Festivals)

2015 Kingfield POPS (Music Event)

Location: Kennedy Farm, Kingfield

The 13th Annual Kingfield POPS will present the Bangor Symphony Orchestra conducted by Lucas Richman. Maine's own Rustic Overtones will perform both as a group and with the Orchestra, bringing a new sound to the western mountains. These acts will be complemented by other musical artists. From the welcoming sounds of the Western Mountain Trash Can Band to the last echo of the firework grand finale, this event will have toes tapping, children dancing and faces smiling. Picnics welcome, blankets or lawn chairs encouraged. Early Bird tickets are $20 until May 15. From May 15 to gate opening, tickets are $25. Tickets for the 2015 Kingfield POPS will be $30 at the gate. . The Kingfield Art Walk, a road race, Kingfield POPS Festival of the Arts, an introductory guided mountain bike ride hosted by the Carrabassett Valley chapter of NEMBA and other family-friendly activities round out the celebration of music and art.
